Data Protection

Membership organisations collect personal data from their members – names, addresses, telephone numbers, as well as more personal monitoring information. Your organisation has a legal duty to your members and your employees to handle this data sensitively, ensure that it is kept securely and that it is destroyed appropriately when it is no longer needed. The guidelines in this section have been selected from the Information Commissioner’s website (which should be your first port of call) and from other professional organisations.

The collection and storage of information, in this electronic age, is also critical to the efficient management of organisations – and mismanagement can also lead to the downfall of a business. This section should be used in conjunction with the policies and procedures sub-sections of Corporate Governanceand Human Resource Management
