This section provides food for thought concerning governance best practice. Corporate Governance is a system by which organisations are directed and controlled and good governance is essential for any organisation to be managed effectively. There is no single model of good corporate governance - one size does not fit all. Whether an organisation should adopt these best practices should be the decision of the Board and will depend on many factors including the structure and size of the organisation. They should be applied using common sense paying due regard to individual circumstances and complexity as well as the nature of risks and challenges.
(In smaller organisations or unincorporated bodies the governance structure may consist of a Management Committee instead of a Board of Directors – the same principles apply)
