When early drafts of the Government’s Healthy Living Strategy emerged, CCPR was concerned that the strategy did not begin to recognise the contribution that sport and recreation are able to make to healthy lifestyles. CCPR moved to fill that gap.
The strategy aimed to reduce obesity in children and CCPR identified some of the best-performing governing bodies in the area, briefed them and put them in front of health officials at a one-day workshop. Thanks to the meeting, and to the governing bodies which presented such a convincing message, the strategy was amended to include much greater reference to physical activity. CCPR and other stakeholders now eagerly await the action plan due to follow the strategy.
