Extra money for sport welcome

CCPR today welcomed Sport England’s new funding agreement with 46 governing bodies of sport. The agreement will see a total of £480m invested in grassroots sport with the aim of boosting participation across the country.

CCPR chair, Brigid Simmonds OBE, said:

“The announcement of funding over four years will be very welcome for many sports, providing certainty and allowing them to plan their investment accordingly. Sport England has worked hard to identify the sports it feels will deliver the demanding targets it must meet. The process has been rigorous and demanding but that is only right because, at the end of the funding cycle, Sport England will be assessed against the increases in participation it has helped to create.

“Some of this funding is speculative, backing initiatives which haven’t been tried before but the participation targets are ambitious so innovation will be required and, to some extent, that is what is being funded.

“The supported sports will now go away and begin to deliver the plans they have put together. CCPR will provide assistance to many of them along the way and will also continue to work with the 240 other governing and representative bodies who are members of CCPR but who will not be in receipt of Sport England funding.”
